Happy Family

I went to the Temple today. It was a very spiritual session for me. I had a moment near the end when I got my name out of my pocket (they were the full size cards submitted by an actual person and not the small generated ones) and the lady next to me was doing the same. I happen to glance over and see that she had "my" daughter. I thought to myself how wonderful that this mother and daughter were able to take out their endowments together! Then the spirit came over me very strongly as a glanced around at the rest of the room. Everybody had the full sized cards and my heart almost burst with happiness that so many of the same family were able to "be there" at the same time! I can just imagine them having a big old party tonight to celebrate!!! I need more moments like that in this hectic life!

Commercials, and how they affect the rising generation

The other day I was shopping at Costco with my kids. I had to buy a Dawn refill, so I grabbed one and stuck it in my cart. Hunter asked what it was, and I told him I use it for washing dishes and cleaning in the kitchen. He then replied very adamantly, "Mom, you need to buy Oxiclean, because it cleans EVERYTHING, really, Mom, everything. You can use it in the kitchen, bathroom, and for the laundry." I was quite impressed by his Oxiclean knowledge, but not enough to fork out the big bucks :)

And the Best Kid award goes to...

Today on the way to church, my kids were asking me about marriage. Hunter asked why didn't everybody get married. I told him that not everybody found their true love in this life (we watch a lot of Disney movies...). Then he asked if once we get married we have to live with our wife or husband. I told him yes. Then, my sweet little princess spoke up, almost in tears, "But Mommy, I want to live with you forever!" Ha! I've heard other parents tell similar stories, but its never reached out and squeezed my heart like when it was MY child :) Needless to say, she can have whatever she wants!!!

So APPARENTLY it's been 5 months since my last post, according to someone named in my title;) I'll give you all a little snippet, but don't be mad if it's another year before I post again, lol.

The kids started school today. It was fun to get them in their outfits with their new backpacks and lunchboxes. I even got up a half hour early to make them whatever they wanted for breakfast. Hunter wanted pancakes and Grace wanted eggs and toast. At first, I told them, no, you need to agree on something. But then, I thought, well, neither of those things are very complicated, and I can make each in individual serving sizes, so I went ahead and made both. Hopefully they don't think every morning I'll do that, though:)

When I picked them up after school, they were very excited about the events of the day. The first thing Grace wanted to tell me was that all the boys in her class had to put their heads down, but not her (she had to put her head down A LOT last year...). Hunter took a more academic approach, exclaiming that he was already smarter!

Something else about school but not related to today. A few weeks ago, we were visiting my Parents in Denver. My Mom and I were talking to my 12 year old little sister about middle school and how hard it was to go through. I think we were in the car, but I know we were with my kids. Anyway, a few nights after we got home, I heard the kids talking in their room. Hunter was telling Grace how scary middle school is and that it's the hardest thing he's ever going to have to do. Grace was really worried and asked if she would have to go to middle school one day. He solemnly replied, yes, she would. I'm not sure either of my kids know what middle school is... I think they must imagine a horrible place where kids are mean... Wait, maybe they DO know what it is! ;)

April Fools!

Hunter and I are a lot alike. We both hate mornings, and can be kinda grumpy. So I don't know why I thought a morning April Fools Day trick would be amusing to him. I remember once when I was young and we lived in Othello, before school on April Fools, my parents put my milk in a bowl and, I think it was a donut?? in my cup. I remember being really upset about it, which is silly, because, that isn't even a mean prank! Well, yesterday, I decided to 'fool' my own children, by setting out their school clothes with each others underwear on their pile. Hunter pulled his shirt off his pile and saw Gracie's underwear, and threw his shirt and the rest of the clothes on the floor, screamed "I'm not wearing that" and ran to his room naked and slammed the door. Overreaction? Maybe, but I guess I get what I deserve. Like mother, like son, after all.
